Both rappers released diss tracks that took blistering personal shots on Friday night. "He doesn't have the heart for the lying, disrespect, and animosity it requires to make an effective diss track," Pierre wrote. Later in the track, Drake references Cole's diss track and apology. At the end of the track, Lamar samples a 1994 Tupac interview to simulate a conversation between the two rappers. "6:16 in LA" also parodies Drake's song titles, which often feature location names and timestamps.

CNN —Sunday’s announcement of the four teams selected for the College Football Playoff sent shockwaves through the sport. Instead of folding, Florida State rallied, coming from behind on the road to defeat Florida in Gainesville with backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker. With the selection, the Crimson Tide will make its eighth appearance in the College Football Playoff, the most of any team. Speaking on ESPN on Sunday, College Football Playoff committee chair Boo Corrigan explained why FSU was left out of the top four. It renders the season up to yesterday irrelevant and significantly damages the legitimacy of the College Football Playoff.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A former North Dakota police officer fired for badly injuring a 63-year-old man during an arrest has been sentenced to probation after dropping his not-guilty plea. The Bismarck Tribune cited court documents in reporting that former Bismarck Officer George Huff entered an Alford plea on Oct. 12 to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. The plea means Huff didn't admit guilt but acknowledged there was enough evidence to support a conviction. Huff, 26, was accused of striking Keith Erlandson several times in the face while holding handcuffs during an arrest on March 9. Bismarck police and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigated, and Police Chief Dave Draovitch fired Huff on May 21.

Republicans control the House by a narrow 221-212 margin, and all Democrats are expected to vote against him. At least seven Republicans are expected to vote against Jordan, which would leave him short of the 217 votes he needs. "Jim is a tough person and is going to almost prosecute our conservative agenda through America," said Republican Representative Mark Alford. Should Jordan's bid for speaker stall, Republican rivals have identified several alternative candidates, including McHenry, who is presiding over the speaker vote, and No. 3 House Republican Tom Emmer.

As House Republicans struggle to govern, the party suffered another black eye Thursday evening when Majority Leader Steve Scalise abruptly withdrew from the speaker’s race amid hardened opposition from more than a dozen holdouts. Tensions are boiling over among House Republicans frustrated at the impasse and concerned over the path forward. The problem for me though is it’s not Jim’s fault so I’m just grappling with that,” he said. House Republicans control just a razor-thin majority and a speaker candidate can only afford to lose four defections and still win. We had a group that sabotaged Speaker McCarthy and now we’ve had a group that sabotaged Steve Scalise, both of them great people,” he said.

But not all Republicans want to see Jordan as speaker, second in line to the presidency. Overwhelmed and exhausted, anxious GOP lawmakers worry their House majority is being frittered away to countless rounds of infighting over rules, personalities and direction of the GOP. Handfuls of Republicans announced they were sticking with Jordan, McCarthy or someone other than Scalise — including Trump. The position as House speaker does not need to go to a member of Congress. Exasperated Democrats, who have been waiting for the Republican majority to recover from McCarthy’s ouster, urged them to figure it out.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, talks to reporters after a House Republican Conference meeting in the U.S. Capitol on the speaker of the house nomination on Thursday, October 12, 2023. On this vote, Jordan came away with 152 votes for him, and 55 against, far short of the 217 he would need in a formal vote on the House floor. Following the second vote, lawmakers broke for the weekend, with few signs of what would come next. House Republicans had nominated Scalise Wednesday after he defeated Jordan in a narrow 113-to-99 internal party vote behind closed doors. The lower chamber is effectively in a state of paralysis, unable to move forward with urgent business until a House speaker is elected.

Scalise, 58, on Wednesday narrowly won House Republicans' nomination to the role, which is second in line to the presidency after the vice president, in a closed-door party vote. 2 to Kevin McCarthy, who on Oct. 3 became the first House speaker in history ousted by his own party. McCarthy was the third consecutive Republican speaker to leave the top post due to pressure from his hard-right flank. Whomever House Republicans eventually back as speaker will take on the job at a time when the chamber has a lot on the agenda. Notably, Representatives Wesley Hunt of Texas and Ken Buck of Colorado came back to Washington at Mr. McCarthy’s request to vote in his favor for speaker. And Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia aligned herself with Mr. McCarthy during the speaker fight and was ousted from the Freedom Caucus over the summer. With far-right members of his caucus in revolt over suspending the debt ceiling, Mr. McCarthy was forced to negotiate a deal with President Biden, further enraging the already volatile faction. In another blow to Mr. McCarthy, the bipartisan measure passed with more Democrats than Republicans. They did so to punish Mr. McCarthy for making a deal with Mr. Biden to suspend the debt limit.

The DOJ will not criminally charge Rep. Matt Gaetz after a years-long sex-trafficking probe, CNN reported. The tumult that broke out last month during the election of Kevin McCarthy for speaker illustrated the potential for profound dysfunction in the new House Republican majority. Representative Harriet Hageman of Wyoming, who has also denied the 2020 election results, defeated Representative Liz Cheney in the primary. "I think we're all building this airplane as we fly," Michael Alford, president of the National Auto Dealers Association, a trade association that represents more than 16,000 U.S. new franchised dealers, told CNBC. Automakers and franchised dealers have a complex relationship that is backed, in many states, by laws that make it difficult, if not illegal, to bypass franchised dealers and sell new vehicles directly to consumers. Both automakers and franchised dealers want to maximize profits, but they're separate businesses that heavily rely on one another to succeed.
